Hangovers

No one likes a hangover, but you don't have to suffer.

- Prevention:

Photobucket1. Protein. Steak is high in protein, thus it slows down the process of getting drunk by quite a lot. This helps you pace yourself so you don't get too drunk, too fast. But with enough protein you might not even get drunk in the first place.


Photobucket2. Water. A hangover is caused by dehydration mostly. Orange Juice and Gatorade are great for keeping hydrated. Of course not many people think to keep hydrated before drinking or especially while drinking. Though there's always screwdrivers: vodka and orange juice.



Photobucket3. Drink Less. Well, duh. But if you're planning on getting drunk yet want to avoid a hangover, then choosing drinks with lower alcohol percentages and pacing yourself will help get you to the desired level of intoxication without going overboard.



- Damage Control:

1. Bacon. According to this article, bacon sandwiches are a great hangover cure. And you know what? It works. The amino acids are what does the trick. It's also delicious.


Photobucket2. Water. Or Gatorade. Again, you're fighting dehydration. Gatorade is specifically designed to fight exactly that, with electrolytes. The sodium, potassium, and chloride assist in rapid absorption, hydrating you quickly. It's pretty tasty too.



Photobucket3. Coffee. This can dehydrate you more, rather than less. But the caffeine content breaks down alcohol quickly and also stimulates the brain. Coffee is really the only way to go here, the amount of caffeine content in coffee is many times greater than sources such as soda pop.



Photobucket4. Tomato. For example; Tomato Soup or Bloody Mary. Tomato has been noted as being a good hangover remedy. Personally I like Spaghetti-O's.



Photobucket5. Shower. A particularly hot shower can help you sweat out the alcohol. Unfortunately sweating dehydrates you a lot, so you'll want to drink plenty of fluids before and after a hot shower.



Photobucket6. A Meal. Such as Greasy Foods. You may or may not like the sound of that, but it can help. Cheese Burgers and Pizza are popular in this regard.

7. Drink More. Sounds counter productive, yeah. And the thought of it may make you queasy. But your body needs time to work off the hangover, and getting a buzz from another drink can provide that time by getting you tipsy again. You may think you'll just be hungover again when you sober up, but you won't be drinking as much this time, just enough to catch a buzz and get rid of the headache/nausea/vertigo.

8. Pills. This is a more extreme matter. This should only be a last resort when all other options other than #7 have been used. And if you use #7 then you should definitely not use this method. Really, you should just avoid using this method at all unless you really feel it completely necessary. However, things like Aspirin are designed to fight headaches, so there you go. In the most extreme situation there's also Mydol. Sounds funny, especially for a guy to be taking it. However, being that it's designed to fight such an extreme thing, surely it would work for a hangover. In truth, it does work fairly well. But again, last resort only.

Focus

People only have a certain amount of focus that they are able (or willing) to utilize at any given time.

We tend to only focus on one thing at a time. We prefer this because we can "give it our full attention". It's difficult to spread this focus over a wide area, and not usually desired. The old saying "out of sight, out of mind" applies to many situations in life. Sometimes things have to practically be placed in a person's lap for them to pay any attention to it. Only things "in focus" are things we bother remembering. Tunnel vision, I suppose, or it may be better described as "tunnel minded".

A lot of the time, I very much prefer to be completely out of focus. Or perhaps "I miss the days when reality seems to be missing". That said, though I'm starting this blog with the intention of writing in it, I may or may not update it with any amount of regularity.
